Our Services

Shelter

Mills County is a small rural community with approximately 5,000 residents and limited resources. With 62.1% of children economically challenged and 53.3% considered at risk, our mission is more critical than ever. The W.A.V. Project supports victims of physical, sexual, economic, and verbal abuse through safety planning, security measures, and stabilization efforts. While we predominantly assist women and children, we also provide referrals for male victims. Our services include crisis intervention, shelter or alternate housing, employment opportunities, professional counseling, legal aid, and guidance. We also assist with housing/relocation, medical needs, food, clothing, personal items, transportation, and crime victims’ compensation. This work is done in collaboration with local law enforcement, the Criminal and Civil Justice System, two part-time staff members, and approximately 20 dedicated volunteers. Our 24/7 telephone hotline and Ring Security System ensure that help is always available for those in need.

Community Resource Center

The Community Resource Center, located on the third floor of the Mills County Court House in Goldthwaite, TX, serves as a vital support system for individuals in need by offering a range of essential services. Our team of volunteers provide guidance on obtaining protective orders, ensuring that those facing threats to their safety have the legal protections they need. We also offer criminal justice support, helping individuals navigate the complexities of the legal system with advocacy and resources. For those experiencing emotional distress, we connect individuals to crisis counseling services, offering immediate support and professional care.

In addition to emotional and legal support, we assist individuals in obtaining crucial documents such as identification, birth certificates, and other important records. Our team can also provide guidance on accessing EBT or SNAP benefits, ensuring that families and individuals receive the food assistance they need. For those facing housing instability, we offer connections to housing assistance programs that help secure safe and stable living situations. At the Community Resource Center, we are committed to providing compassionate support and practical solutions to those in need, helping them regain stability and security in their lives.
